Sachin Kumar
Ph.D.- Associate Professor
Sachin holds a Master's degree in Geography, M Phil in Counselling Psychology with a specialisation in Career Counselling and Livelihood Planning, a PhD in Green Livelihoods; and a Diploma in Training and Development. He started his career as a Lecturer at the Army Cadet College, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in 1998. Later he joined Himachal Pradesh Higher Education Services and then worked in a number of colleges in Himachal Pradesh. Active in the education and development sector for the last 25 years as a teacher, teacher educator, counsellor, counsellor trainer, researcher, curriculum developer, project planner, and consultant, he is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Government Degree College, Shahpur, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
He has been primarily working with adolescents, young adults and their caregivers including parents, teachers, school heads, counsellors and employers with nearly 40 organizations (schools, colleges, universities, corporate houses, NGOs, ministries and government departments) across 12 states of India. He has published nearly 40 journal articles, book chapters, and country reports on the issues of livelihoods and careers with reputed publishers such as Springer, Routledge, Elsevier, Oxford University Press, and Australian Academic Press. He has also worked as a reviewer for the International Journal of Educational and Vocational Guidance (IJEVG), a Springer Journal; British Journal of Guidance and Counselling, a Taylor & Francis journal and Indian Journal of Career and Livelihood Planning. He has delivered invited talks in the events organised by Career Industry Council of Australia, Canadian Career Development Foundation, and Asia Pacific Career Development Association. He has been appointed the Chairperson of the two State Focus Group, one Guidance and Counselling in Schools, and another on the Emerging Role of Community in Education constituted for preparing State Curriculum Framework under New Education Policy, 2020. He is currently the President of the Indian Association of Career and Livelihood Planning (IACLP), and the National Correspondent to the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG). He has recently been included in the Board of Directors of IAEVG for a period of four years (2023-27). Sachin received the Promise Fellowship for developing curriculum and course material for a post graduate programme for career guidance practitioners. He has also received Quality Excellence Award 2021 (Teaching - Training Excellence Category) by the Indian Quality Assurance Council and Indian Society for Training and Development.
